SEPS can be regarded as "unproven" in that there is not yet a randomised controlled study to show that it stops recurrence of varicose veins. We are currently performing such a study in my unit in Guildford but the results will become available within a year. There are several other studies that suggest this link strongly. Thus as an expert in this area, I recommend SEPS to people who have proven perforator vein incompetence, to give what is in my opinion the very best treatment available.
SEPS is recognised as a procedure and has an operation code (called the OPCS code). This code is L8701 and it appears in the WPA handbook, the "bible" for many doctors and secretaries.
SOME INSURANCE COMPANIES MAY NOT RECOGNISE SEPS (ie: may not reimburse you for SEPS
Although some Medical Insurers have proven difficult in the past about paying for SEPS, I have found that over the last couple of years, most now pay for it using one method or another.
If you have any queries you should check with your own Medical Insurer about their position and also with our office who can advise you about the current position (see contact page) |
